This series is the one that made me fall in love with author Lori Foster's writing. I love her Buckhorn boys! Be forewarned though that you will want to start at the beginning of this series. Not only will starting at the beginning give you all the back story, but you will understand how each person is connected in this story. Also, this is novella length --Amazon has it listed at 90 pages-- so don't expect a huge read either.

As a person who doesn't usually enjoy quick novellas, I found that Back to Buckhorn was actually pretty good lengthwise. It flowed better than other novellas and didn't feel rushed to me. I loved thecharacter of Garrett and I even came to like Zoey by the end of the story. While the plot line was pretty good, I did have some issues with it -namely that quick ending, it wasn't enough to turn me off from reading more in this series.

Again, if you haven't had the pleasure of reading any books in this series, I urge you to please start with one of the earlier books, if not at the beginning. It can be read as stand alone, but you might find yourself a little confused at some of the character references.

Slightly disappointed by this novella. More words were used to describe the fit of Garrett's jeans than were spent on character development. We moved from first date to friends with benefits to deep love in about twenty pages -- that's pretty fast even for a short story! Not Foster's best work by any means, but still not enough to keep me from reading the next book in the series. I've read enough of her work to know that she is capable of so much more, and I am hoping the next installment lives up to those expectations.

I received this book from Harlequin via Netgalley for an honest review.

Garrett does his sister a favor by picking up her friend at the airport. Zoey was always the odd girl but she owned it and he had always wanted to kiss her. She left town though and hadn't come back to Buckhorn since. Now shes home to take care of her mom that is sick. On first appearance though she looks ragged, on the flight there a kid puked all over her. After her shower, she looked jaw dropping pretty.

Zoey had always had a crush on Garrett, but so had all the other girls in town. Getting in to town and expecting Amber to pick her up, she figured they'd laugh about her puke situation. Nope, no such luck, Garrett picks her up and she wants to die from mortification. She bounces back quickly and they start a friendship that goes from that to friends with benefits.

What friends with benefits relationship ever stays that way? I really enjoyed watching them try to keep their friendship strictly that, but the lines got blurred and neither one wanted to be the one to break the 'pact' they had made. I loved both of the characters and it was so awesome seeing the earlier characters from the other books in this series. I'm a fan of the author and her work. Read the Buckhorn series, you won't regret it. Remember to leave the author some love in the form of a review!

Thanks netgalley for a free novella in exchange for a review. Short....sweet and entirely buckhorn. Loved it, and I would read anything this author writes. Although it was short the characters had a mutual attraction with a simple plot and lots of chemistry. Overall entertainment is four stars.

Buckhorn Brothers series
By Lori Foster

As some of you can tell I binged series this year and fell in love with some amazing authors. One such author is Lori Foster. I think I caught a book of hers last year and this year I just went nuts. So let’s begin with what I read of this long series. I still have some to add to my TBR list next year.

Buckhorn Beginnings: Sawyer / Morgan (Buckhorn Brothers #1-2)
This combo starts with Sawyer the only doctor in the small county of Buckhorn, Kentucky. Being a white knight he saves Honey Malone when she wrecks her car after driving it through his fence and into his pond. Honey becomes the only woman in a ranch house full of men, recovering and worried that she can endanger them when her past comes back to get its’ revenge.

Morgan is the big, bad sheriff and he is noticing just how calming having a stable relationship can change you when he watches his brother Sawyer settle down with Honey. But the one woman he wants and can’t stop thinking about is Misty Malone, Honey’s sister who seems more trouble than she is worth. Some men need a little shaking up, don’t they.

Forever and Always: Gabe / Jordan (Buckhorn Brothers #3-4)
Gabe is known as a ladies man in Buckhorn with a heart of gold. After saving someone from drowning he also becomes a minor celebrity. Elizabeth Parks is working on a project for college, interviewing the type of people who risk their own lives for others to see what makes them different. She desperately wants to interview Gabe but he just isn’t having it until he makes her a deal, which backfires on him big time and the ladies man becomes a taken one instead.

Jordan is the town vet and his brothers believe that it will take a woman of up most virtue to catch him. Be surprised when he rescues and falls for a single mother who is an exotic dancer. This one was so good.

Buckhorn Legacy: Casey / Back To Buckhorn (Buckhorn Brothers #5 & 5.2)

Casey is Sawyer’s son and is back in Buckhorn from college when he runs into Emma. Emma had a bad girl rep when they were children and it took everything Casey had to resist her back then. Now she needs his help and he won’t resist her the second time around.

“Leaving Buckhorn was the best thing Zoey Hodge did. Now she’s back to take care of her mum. She doesn’t mind seeing Garrett Hudson, one of the few who cared for her. Now he’s a firefighter with a very tempting sexy charm.” Oh the firefighter heat in this one is so worth it.

Shohn (Buckhorn Brothers #5.1)

This one is a fan-favorite novella “Ranger Shohn Hudson can't help but notice a few things about Nadine Moest. She's gorgeous, she's smart, she's driven, and… she's apparently not into him. At all. Shohn's used to being chased, so having the one woman who matters resist his charms is not what he signed up for.” I love that even though we move on from the first family introduced the town is just as much of a character as the men and women found there.

Back to Buckhorn (Buckhorn Brothers #5.2)

Another novella in the series, these make such good quick reads that you can more than likely get through while waiting at the doctors office. This one will make you cringe in embarrassment but you’ll love every moment and hot fireman action is nothing to sneeze at. One of the best I laughed out loud and cringed right along with Zoey.

A Buckhorn Summer (Buckhorn Brothers #5.3)

“Lisa has been on Gray’s mind every day since that mind-blowing encounter. He was reeling from a tragedy in the line of duty, and their connection was instant and intense. Still is. But sleepy Buckhorn is a million miles from her corporate world. And he has one sweet, hot summer to prove they have a future there, together…” You never know where surprise encounters can take you.

I want to start by saying I was kind of disappointed this was only a novella. I’m used to reading the other Buckhorn books that are long and really detailed. I loved reading about the brothers falling in love and was hoping this would be similar. I was similar, but I think there could have been a lot more to the story. Saying that, the author did a good job for such a short story.

The story follows Garrett and Zoey. Zoey comes back to Buckhorn because her mom is in the hospital, and decides she is going to stay and set up a pet grooming salon. Zoey was run out of town years ago because of an incident that left her high school football star boyfriend dead. Garrett is the hometown golden boy and a firefighter. He has always been drawn to the quirky, odd ball Zoey and now sees his chance to make his move. The story describes Zoey falling back into the comfort of small time life and remodeling her house while still dealing with some hostility about the past. Garrett is there to help her as often as he can and defending her against the haters. It is a nice story, but like I mentioned it could definitely been fleshed out more. There is a good mix of drama, romance, and emotional upheaval to keep it interesting and moving well.

I really liked and could relate easily to Zoey. I thought she was a fun, down to earth, realistic character I would like to know more about. Garrett is pretty much a standard romance hero, but it was nice to see the relationship develop in the book. Unfortunately, the ending is somewhat abrupt and doesn’t quite feel finished. I hope we run into the couple in later books to see how they are doing and how the story line plays out.

I would recommend this to anyone who liked the Buckhorn books or Lori Foster stories. It is a quick read, and would be a good summer read.

I’ve been a huge Lori Foster fan since I first discovered her books when I was still in college (which was a long time ago because I am old). And I’ve said many times that Lori Foster can totally rock the romance novellas. So I was super excited to see Back to Buckhorn, a novella continuing her Buckhorn series (LOVE) at the end of my eARC, Tough Love. While I did like Back to Buckhorn, it isn’t my favorite Lori Foster novella out there.

When Zoey returns to her hometown of Buckhorn, Kentucky, she first runs into Garrett, a guy she had a crush on back in her high school days. Unfortunately, Zoey wasn’t at her best, due to a vomiting baby on the airplane. It was pretty fun to see Garrett’s reaction to Zoey who was looking completely bedraggled, and who smelled like baby vomit. But when Garrett sees Zoey all cleaned up, he is completely attracted to her.

While I was totally shipping Zoey and Garrett, at times the story just felt a little . . . dry, you could say. I didn’t have any strong emotions. When I finished Back to Buckhorn, almost all the details left my brain because I didn’t have any strong feelings about the novella.

If you are a fan of the Buckhorn series, then definitely look into this because it’s fun to revisit some of your favorite characters. But otherwise, I would try Lori Foster’s other novellas. While I enjoyed Back to Buckhorn, it isn't a book that I will ever want to re-read. Generally Lori Foster totally kicks novella butt, but this one isn't quite as spot on as normal. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
