I read this as part of my business finance course, but it took me a while to finish the second half of the book. It’s very detailed with excellent explanations and examples.

The final chapter has many recommendations for improving financial literacy on teams and within organizations, including a weekly numbers meeting to go over the impact that peoples work is having on the numbers that matter for an organization. I think that would be a great step for every organization. I’ve never been part of such a meeting and only ever hear about quarterly earnings results or KPI’s for performance reviews that seem to have a little to do with my own work.

Really good overview and good refresher on these topics - was in need of some balance sheet terminology refreshes so this definitely fit the bill.

I was looking for a book to help me brush up on some of the things I had forgotten from college and high school, as well as give me a little better understanding of what to pay attention to when it comes to the financial health of my company. Financial Intelligence fits the bill very nicely. It's a pretty nice refresher for those who learned some of this stuff in the past and gentle enough for people completely new to the concepts as well. Good starting point.

Targeted at non-financial workers and managers, this book hopes to bring home the importance of financial intelligence to such individuals and provides a basic understanding of financial statements (income, balance sheet and cash flow), the various financial ratios and calculation of return on investment. Accessible style makes it readable and provides suggestions on how to make workers more financially attuned, being better able to value add to their workplace as well as understand, critique the information produced by accountants and financial staff.

Useful! Geared a bit more towards larger organisations than mine, but I still learned a lot. I can finally read my balance sheet, yay.

Pretty much the Elements of Style for finance. Easy to follow with plenty of examples, Berman and her co-authors take careful measure to explain key words and phrases on business statements while putting them into practical context.
