I know I'm late to this game, but Dav Pilkey is legit y'all. So many authors try to capture a kid's voice and so few of them actually achieve it. Too often it comes across as fake or obnoxious. Pilkey nails it, though, and is so darned likeable in the process. Furthermore, the story actually sounds like one a kid would've made up, but it's also polished enough to come across as professional. That's a tough balancing act. It's no wonder he and Kinney are so often put together in the same category. I had fun reading this one and the little one loved listening to it. We'll definitely be checking out the rest of the series now.

Found a copy of this book on a shelf while at my Grandparents' house, so I spent part of my afternoon reading through it. I've never read a Dog Man book before (though I have read some of the early Captain Underpants books). This book gave us a quick introduction to the story thus far, which I greatly appreciated (you could easily start with this book if you don't have book one in your possession). The story was simple, yet fun. It had a childlike feeling to it that was kind of nostalgic. I loved the subtle nods to A Tale of Two Cities. Petey the cat was my favorite character (I loved his character development). The page-flip animation moments were a lot of fun (I didn't realize they'd be making a return from the Captain Underpants series, and it was a welcome surprise). This is a series that I bet many kids of an elementary school age would greatly enjoy reading.

My son and I had a "laff" reading A Tale of Two Kitties. There are parts that actually had me laughing out loud. Looking forward to continuing this series. Dog Man is Go!

Nachteil: So viele Bände! Mein Ziel "50% Bücher von Frauen" entfernt sich wieder!

Vorteil: So dünne Bände! "Hold placed, you are 378th in line" 1 Tag später: "Your Dog Man book is ready to borrow!"
