I was confused for part of this book...I didn't know who was real and who was a painting...also - the plot was too similar to the first in the series.

What fun lighter MG reading!

West does a great job of building up a plot and then giving an ending that feels worthwhile - and worth a the continuation of the storyline.

This is a cute sequel. This book is perfect for middle school aged kids. In this book we meet a new neighbor and find out the house is not ready to let go of its old owners. Love the different personalities of the three cats.

3 1\2 stars. Cute and fun. Imaginative. Sequel to "The Books of Elsewhere: The Shadows."

I wanted to love it, but the first half was going so sloooow. It felt like riding in a car going 10 mph on a forever road surrounded by dead corn stalks. In other words, what a sludge.

The whole time, I thought I knew where the book was going. And I did. Once the middle of the book hit, I was strapped in and ready to go. Everything was going as expected.

Until a surprise plot twist showed up that absolutely knocked my socks off! Everything after that was 5 stars for me, thankfully. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Spellbound, the first sequel in the "The Books of Elserwhere" series, was for me an inferior story when compared with "The Shadows". I found the story more boring and Olive a little annoying. Let's see what awaits me in the third volume.
