Sanghera provides a comprehensive and nuanced history of the British empire and its impact on global politics today. Ultimately he argues that it is futile to only see the empire as either ‘good’ or ‘bad’, but instead recognise that the consequences of colonialism are felt across the world and we must fully understand and appreciate this before inserting ourselves into the governance of other countries.
