I needed this book. Everyone needs this eye-opening and thought-provoking book. It's full of practical advice that will help every reader see the world more clearly and be a more critical thinker. I learned so much about the world and about myself.

I found this book a real eye opener.  I began to realize how many assumptions I and many others frequently make about other people, other countries, and the state of the world. I have to admit I am guilty of still framing the world as I knew it to be several decades ago. Thanks for the opportunity to update my ways of thinking.  I also appreciated that this book was written by a Swedish author who was able to share an international viewpoint and remind us that the US doesn’t have a corner on the market of writers and thinkers who are willing to examine long held assumptions and ways of thinking, no matter they unpalatable the conclusions may be to some.  Highly recommended.

This is a quick read that I'm going to recommend to all my friends and acquaintances. If you worry about the state of the world; if you don't know how to decide which source of news or which current crisis to focus on, this book is your road map.

The author both explains that things are getting (slowly) better, and details the common mental biases that make it hard for us to keep sight of those facts in current society. The facts get a little dense at times, but there are fascinating stories interspersed which vividly illustrate the main ideas.

I particularly appreciate that the book suggests plenty of resources for keeping up to date on the facts and trends described. It's given me a lot to think about, and I expect I'll want to pick this up again to reflect on certain sections more deeply.

This book is right in a few ways and wrong in many ways.
There are some good reviews here that discuss in detail why this simplistic perspective of the world is wrong in many ways, and I have little to add.
I read this book just because it was recommended by Bill Gates and I expected something good. I am disappointed.

It’s like cognitive behavioral therapy for world views/situations with some elements that remind me of Adam Grant’s Think Again…practicing a data-driven mindset (both numerical and anecdotal/observational data) and being wary of bifurcated thinking…or simplifying complex ideas and situations through a binary lens. Got better once I got over my mistaken assumptions at the beginning of the book based on the title byline.

Ôi must read must read.
