how to go from comfort to need

This book is one that has stayed with me for years. I had not finished it and then forgot that I actually had it. Was reminded that I have this sorry and went back to it. Finished the second half in less than a day. Let me just tell you, it’s dark and taboo but I could completely see it being so much the way that kitty Thomas wrote it.

Comfort food

After reading so much about this book, I finally read it.
I am glad I did.
I can see myself in Emily. I can see myself in master.

Was a great book. Great characters and world building. The time and patience one must have to take care of their slave.

The ending was a twist. A good twist in my eyes.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as her other books mainly because I feel the characters lacked depth. However I will say that the author always impresses in the way that she delivers the main characters inner turmoil and writes it in a way that feels so real.

"Okay... what the hell are we reading now?" Was literally the first thing I thought as I finished the first chapter.
I must admit I didn't really like our MC Emily (a bit more near the end when she got more interesting though), being almost the complete opposite of myself.

But I'm willing to overlook that in favor of the psychological breakage I was promised in the synopsis.
Fine, I'm just a LITTLE bit sadistic in my reads... But hey, this book calls for it!

I found myself rolling my eyes and sighing in exasperation at our MC more than once. But despite that, this story hooks it's claws into you and doesn't let go. It's an weird, but VERY interesting effect.

The aftermath was fascinating to read,
Spoiler since it's not just another case of the MC being suddenly free from their shackles and picking up life right where they left it.
There are after-effects, long lasting ones, and psychological conditioning at that level isn't easily mitigated. Emily TRIED to have a normal life, but in the end the pull wasjust too strong and I knew what she'd do the minute she stepped into that car when she left the Master.

Our main 'Bad Guy' I cannot otherwise describe as fascinating. He has a level of self-control that's beyond what I expected.
The reason he gave us for taking Emily is... underwhelming and rather weak in my opinion, which is probably why I'm not singing his praises as I've seen others do.

As I'm horrible to the characters I read, I was frankly hoping
Spoiler that he'd been 'conditioned' in his own past,
but ah well...

All in all, this was a very engrossing look into Master-Slave conditioning and Stockholm syndrome. I didn't feel nearly as sorry for the 'Master/Monster' as several other readers seem to do, but hey, to each their own.

The writing style is what grabbed me the most, it just... clicked.
It's very easy to get sucked into these pages, big kudos to the author for that!

I read this book for the first time almost 10 years ago, and it changed my whole life. I felt like the shutters had been thrown open wide and the shock left me stunned. I couldn't decide if I was enjoying it or not, and I was pushed so far out of my comfort zone I couldn't even remember what it was. Reading it again was just as intense. I love that the story is still able to move to to such an emotional state. You'll never be able to forget it, and that's what makes a story amazing.
