My partner thought this was a board book for our toddler when I brought it home from the library.

Another library find! I have been trying to get into magical realism but it’s quite hard to wrap my head around sometimes my brain be too logical. But this was perfect intro! I wish I got a little more, I wanna go deeper. Did have to be full attention to make sense of it. Overall enjoyed it

Absurdly compelling and unique. No matter how long of a break I took from reading it drew me back in expertly. Sometimes difficult to follow the many strands of story, but still a very effective book when I just let myself be swept along in it.

Complicated review. I think this is about as ambitious as it gets in a novel. And it works. Just barely. I love the weirdness that parallels the weirdness of the real world, sometimes a little too plainly. It’s ridiculous and all over the place, there are god knows how many characters and viewpoints, things happen and then oop guess what that didn’t happen. confusing, but enrapturing. One of those books where you wonder how the hell the author came up with this.

A story very invested in the marginalized, in pointing out injustice, elevating silenced voices.

It's really weird but very good. Magical realism at it's best.
