3rd- 4th re-listen (who knows).

I love Sean Crisden so it's always a treat when he narrates books from my favorite authors which isn't often. This is one of Mary's best books (and series) even though with 10 years under my belt in reading M/M romances and quite an avid reader to all books Mary Calmes, there are glaring problems I'm sweeping under the rug for the sake of enjoyment, e.g. Jin's TSTL attitude, the OTT unrealistic situation of escaping and then doing the rounds in the dance club but most of all the too premature ILUs between Logan and Jin when they hadn't really spend any kind of time together apart having sex a couple if times. Still I so love this story!!!

------------

Having the audio version of a story I love is amazing but having a great narrator like Sean Crisden is a the cherry on the freakin cake! Just hearing his voice for Logan is off the charts HOOOT!!!!

I'm not going to be bringing anything new with this review. I will say however that despite this story embodying classic, standard Calmes plotlines and characters (but with different names and settings) it really works well in the paranormal world.

The absurdity and plot holes can easily be explained away with the destined mates trope. Claiming and possessiveness and Logan going alpha on Jin's ass are all acceptable. Spontaneous sex whenever and wherever is absolutely guaranteed, and just lends to the overall yumminess of this preposterous setup. Because really?? Anywhere else this would be a big no-no.

So yes, Calmes is a certain kind of crack. Everyone knows this. And everyone knows that you either love and accept it for what it is, or you know it just isn't for you. Well, the majority of the time it's for me. And it certainly doesn't hurt that this was freakin hot, if a bit overdone (Yes, I put my own self in the corner. For shame!)

My brain is still reeling from all the new words/terms/world building, but in the grand scheme of things, that matters little.

Again - enjoyable, predictable, combustible.

Good fun with Meags as we delved into this craziness!

I liked this one, and the sex was hot as always, but I felt like there were too many storylines going on at once. I get that this is a series, so storylines for the next book had to start in this one, but there was the Logan/Jin, Jin and his old tribe, Logan and Domin and Cristophe's tribes, and the story kinda dragged in the middle. I found myself wanting to skim, and I never do that in a Mary Calmes book. Jin annoyed me too that last time he took off. I wanted to smack him and tell him to get over himself. Such a self-absorbed brat! All of this being said, I will continue the series. I've been warned by a good GR friend that the next two books get angsty, and angst is totally my cop of tea.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this one. I'm not big into shifter/alpha urban fantasy. But this was a fun read. I will admit that I have a weakness for the fated mate/bound forever/I'll-always-protect-you thing. Happy to see that by the end of the book, Jin was more comfortable with himself. Curious to see what the rest of the series brings.

EDIT: 4/3/17
I tried re-reading this by listening to the audiobook, but I just couldn't get into to, mostly be cause of the narrator. He did different voices for the characters but they were goofy, unrealistic voices and just sounded stupid.

I enjoyed this book but there were some parts that threw me a little:
1. People seemed to change their opinions way too fast (Peter Church went from thinking his son was nuts for accepting Jin as his mate over Simone to being very loving and accepting of Jin) (the bad guys were forgiven and became good guys).
2. The world and the rules governing the shifters were never really explained. The author seemed to be making it all up as she wrote (NOT good for cohesion and clarity).

On the whole, though, I could get past these because she really made the characters pop (they felt like real people, for the most part).
