When a little seed is scared to sprout, his underground friends encourage him to keep growing so he can become what he is meant to be. Less an educational book about how seeds become plants than a book that shows the benefit of taking risks in life to become who you were meant to be. The ending was absolutely perfect. It just made me feel good.

Great fiction text that actually has a considerable amount of information to teach young readers about how a seed grows. I really enjoyed the illustrations and format of the book (lots of pages to open and pull down).

A cute story to relate to kids who are scared to try new things and for perseverance themes. A seedling is helped along by a worm and other insects on his way to the surface. Good for community building.

When a child cheers at the end of a book, you know it is a good one.

It's technically not a nonfiction book, but there is a lot of fun information in this one that can easily be tied into a unit on plants and growing things. I love Matthew Cordell's illustrations.
