Trigger warning: Mentions of a dead newborn
This a dark and sad story about a new mother. It is sitting on the edge of urban fantasy, in that stage where the protagonist has to come terms with the fact that the world isn't what she thinks it is.
The story gives us a really good understanding of where the mother came from, but I didn't actually get a really good feel for her as a person - she was a bit generic mother figure to me. To me the midwife character was more interesting and the one I wanted to know more about.
