Stunning. Absolutely gorgeous. These books are slowly breaking my heart and then putting the little pieces back together with the way these little characters are all making their way in the world. I am in love.

Moving more away from his hyper focus on family, this third volume focuses more on the children's interactions with people who are outside of the home. I continue to be amazed by the effortless way in which matsumoto keeps developing this story so slowly and seemingly randomly.

Vol. 1 and 2 are good but Vol. 3 is great. It has the emotional resonance that the first two are just shy of. The story about Junsuke and his brother Shosuke at the shopping mall is my favorite.
