Things look up again in the Oz series, in an adventure that brings Dorothy's family to Oz  and sees the return of the Nome King. Humorous portrayals of human foibles along with commentary on the tendency of evil to overreach itself, and a novel nonviolent response.

I'm guessing at the date here because I finished the book a while back and forgot to write it up at the time. I really wish I had, because I liked this one and I had things to say about it; if this was made into a movie now, it would be a horror movie. Seriously. And it would be awesome. It's really becoming clear to me that I'm a huge fan of the darker elements of Oz.

Way better written then the past two to three books within the series. The Emerald City of Oz has more action than the others; more cohesive flow in the way it was written. It was enjoying to see that you do not need violence, yet, can still prevail. This goes well with the themes that Baum was trying to get at when trying to differentiate his children's books from others.

I enjoyed the switching of story lines from Dorothy and friends to the Nome King and allies, and wish there had been more of it.

Another adventure with Dorothy and the gang, this time Dorothy rescues her family from being kicked out of their home by taking them back on a journey to Oz with her just before it is invaded by the evil gnome king.

It was a cute story, not my favorite, and it took awhile to read so I’ll probably be waiting some time before checking out the next one.
