Christie is at her best in this book that focuses not on the "zero hour" of a murder, but on how all of the characters--the suspects--got to the point of being there during the crime itself.
The characters are cleverly drawn and the third person narrative is perfection: honest and deceiving at the same time. And although my favorite little egg-headed Belgium, Hercule Poirot, doesn't make an appearance, one of his Scotland Yard colleagues, Superintendent Battle, is inspired by Poirot to notice something out of order that leads him to an important element of the crime.
This is definitely one that I'll come back to when I have a couple of days with nothing to read and need a little mystery.

I really liked it, read this after reading the orient express (which I found easy to solve) and I was absolutely stumped. After reading the ending I was surprised I didn't see it coming. One of my fav mysteries

Very atmospheric, tense, personality-centered saga. There was some great misdirection and a lot of potential for the reader to go wandering through theories, but the end was a surprise to me.
A crazy case of insta-love at the end, but ah well

Towards Zero is a murder mystery that keeps surprising the reader.
It starts pretty simple, by introducing the characters, some of which seemed irrelevant, and yet, everything comes together in the end.
The author does a good job taking out one suspect at the time, leaving some small details here and there for the reader to pick up. And the story is masterfully presented by multiple points of view, ultilizing the personalities and background stories of each character to create an intriguing web.
