I love how this piece of narrative nonfiction is told. Although it is in third person (for most of the book), it gets the reader into the head of the coyote. It takes the reader on her nightly hunt for survival, and the suspense of the hunt is palpable. In addition to the fantastic way the story is told, the realistic and beautiful illustrations bring everything to life.

I like this because coyotes are often demonized and it is important that people know they are animals too. It is important to know how different animals work and how to behave around them. The illustrations are beautiful. Monarch 2019 nominee.

I will not be going for any night time walks after reading this. The illustrations are beautiful, but a little scary for me.

So much to talk about with young readers within this book - predators, prey, defense, survival, food chain. Great text!

Fantastic look at how coyotes survive in the suburbs today. (No family pets are eaten, thank goodness.) Gorgeous illustrations bring the tensions between hunter and prey to life.

I don't know what the last line is because there was a chunk ripped out of several pages of my library copy...

Informative and beautiful, relevant in Ptown, but not my favorite Monarch nominee.
