Okay, I maintain that this is the best cookbook I have ever read, but I have some caveats:
- I’m no longer a meat eater. This book has a lot of recipes still good for people who don’t eat meat or dairy, but it does limit how useful it still is. I think it’s a good one to recommend to planet conscious meat eaters as a way to eat meat more mindfully and reduce the amount consumed
- I’m really not into alternative medicine. The book is pretty light on, but it’s present.
- there are also numerous health claims that are made that are not cited anywhere. I’m not saying it’s junk science, but it’s just really tricky to know how I should take a statement like “Studies show zucchinis are 200% more nutritious than cucumbers!” What studies? Nutritious how?
All that being said, I only have the gripes because I have read this cover to cover every time I need new sustainable cooking inspiration. Most importantly it teaches a more sustainable way to exist and eat food.
My most used recipes are probably the chickpea blondies and the pumpkin sage pasta sauce.
