This is the first of three manga in the Desert Tales series which are an offshoot of Marr’s Wicked Lovely series. Having just read Ink Exchange I was interested to learn a bit more about this universe and the faeries and could not resist a manga version.
The drawings in this manga are slightly simplistic, but this adds to the style rather than detracts from it. I love the way that they are drawn, even if it can get a tad confusing at times as to who is who and what’s happening. This is just a general point about the plot as well. I don’t think that these manga could be easily read as standalone books as there is no world building within them, meaning it would be very confusing for someone coming to Marr’s universe for the first time.
I like Rika’s character and the way that she lives alone in the desert, refusing to belong to any of the faerie courts. I like the fact that she was one of Keenan’s girls who tried to become his queen and failed. Jayce also seems like an interesting person, but their romance happens way too fast and I do not like the way that Sionnach is meddling.
Overall this manga was a fun little read (it only took me about 30 mins to finish).

Meh.
Liked the art style, and... actually that was it unfortunately.

I enjoyed it, but I am sure I would have liked it better if I had read Wicked Lovely first. I was a little lost.

I enjoyed reading about these characters even though this is a graphic novel spin off of the wicked lovely series with different characters. I have tried many times to read the wicked lovely series but I just can't get into it. But I loved the storyline for this series more.

The Wicked Lovely books were some of my favorites in high school. I loved faeries and the world Melissa Marr created, but I haven't read them in years, so there were some details I forgot about. Keenan looked nothing like how I used to picture him.

This was a fun quick read but truly fluff. I was expecting a little more.

A picture book! It's based on Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series. I love the series. This one is about a fairy, Rika, who used to be the Winter Girl for Kenaan. Rika moved to the desert and now has a total crush on this guy, Jayce. Jayce sort of likes her after she saves him twice and then they kiss... to be continued...
Yes, it did say that at the end. It's a cute story. Even though I felt like I was being rushed through most of the story line. It happened so fast. Over ths course of one day, it took me an hour to read the entire thing. It was good, but the regular series is better.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the concept but at the same time I'm not sure that there was really much to the book.
I liked the drawings although I found it difficult to tell who was a guy and who was a girl. I only found out when they referred to the person in question.
Also there weren't many words even for a manga type book. So I found it hard to tell what was going on.
One redeeming factor was that it was about fairies and it also had a character I knew from the book Wicked Lovely.
Overall, I didn't love this one but I didn't hate it. I'm thinking it might've just been an introductory book to the rest of the series but I'm not entirely sure. I'll read the next one when it comes out and from there decide if I'll continue to read this series.
