Whilst some of its comments haven't aged brilliantly, you've got to recognise the relevance of this book to being a young teenager. I thought I couldn't remember much of this book, but it's actually stayed with me (I probably could have reeled off some of Ellie's lists from memory if I tried hard enough) and was generally quite enjoyable considering that I don't normally like YA or middle grade fiction. As always, Jacqueline Wilson is the queen of treating young people with respect and approaching tough topics in an appropriate way and making her readers feel seen. I can't wait for the new Girls book, and will be reading the remaining three in the series before then.

Reread of a childhood favourite, it was cute but also deals with big topics in a way young teenagers can actually understand
