Wow! Janie does not disappoint with Eagle! Finn can handle any assignment he is given, is now a fabulous dad, but nothing prepares him for the return of his ex, Charlotte. Finn is expecting at tutor for his son,, but when the tutor turns out to be Charlotte his is forced to put his son before his broken heart. Charlotte has her reasons for breaking Finn's heart, and now tries to keep her dire situation under wraps...until things go sideways. They never really stopped loving each other, and when her life is in danger Finn can't help go to her. They can't deny their chemistry, but Charlotte thinks that when things die down Finn will reject her. This is a fast paced, danger filled, at times heartbreaking story but has so much passion and love...it's just so good!

This is book 2 in Janie Crouch’s Linear Tactical series. It stands alone but characters appear throughout the books and there are small references to past stories and foreshadowing events so they’re best enjoyed in order. Starting with Cyclone.

I like second chance romance and for the most part enjoyed Finn & Charlie’s story. The dribbling of info from Charlie (some things not revealed until the very last chapter) kept this from wow-ing me. She really hurt Finn and it’s hard to buy into the rekindled relationship while she continues to keeps secrets when there really isn’t a reason to.

Charlie tutoring Finn’s son Ethan gave this some of the nanny trope vibes I adore. Ethan was a cute kid and it was nice to see what an awesome father Finn is.

The mystery/suspense aspect was slightly predictable, but still enjoyable. Charlie wasn’t TSTL and while she did need rescuing, it wasn’t because she didn’t give the antagonists a run for their money.

Sweet but abrupt ending as these flow right into the next story. I’m looking forward to Shamrock.

Narration:
I like Tom Campbell’s performance in that there are variations for voices and emotions, but there’s still something I don’t click with at times. I’ll keep listening to these and him, but I just don’t think he’s going to be one of my “oh I love him” narrators.

Content Warning (spoilers):
Charlie survives an attempted sexual assault and later a kidnapping/brutal beating/interrogation.

Finn and Ethan are a package. Raising his son is his priority and Finn will do anything to help him. When he finds out he is falling behind in his reading, Finn look gets a recommendation for a tutor. Little does he know, it’s his ex-girlfriend Charley. Charley left Finn years ago to marry another man. Now back, working a couple of jobs and trying to get ahead, she is doing her best to make a new life. And our story begins. I am really enjoying this series. Janie Crouch has me on the edge of my seat with suspense and my heart filling with love. Finn is an amazing dad, and that is so attractive. He is protective and loving and it’s easy to see why Charley fell I love with him. Charley is incredible. She is smart, intuitive and loyal to the end. The twists and turns make this ride so exciting and fun and I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Narrated by the talented Tom Campbell, he narrates with expertise and precision. I love his voice, easily fits the story and he finds a rhythm making the listen an enjoyable experience.

I liked this one better than the first.  The suspense was consistent throughout, and I was impressed that the author didn't shy away from having harm come to the main characters.  So many times the MCs are completely immune to any harm but here they are treated as any other character would be.  The audiobooks are easy listens, great for something to listen to during monotonous data entry.

I dunno why I keep reading these. Damn you Kindle Unlimited! Free (on KU) fast read, but only mediocre for writing, story, characters, suspense and sex scenes. One thing though, if this little town is so great, why are there so many rapists and terrorists hanging out there? Also my judgey Canadian hat was on the entire read, this scenario would never happen if you all just had socialized healthcare. Meh. I’ll probably read the next one because it’s a pandemic and I don’t feel like paying for a book from a real publisher with good, vetted authors who can spell and be succinct.
The male characters are all just interchangeable in this series. I could complain more but I will do what this author can’t and edit myself.

This is the 2nd book I have read in the series. I felt like most of the suspense was left until almost the end of the book.

There was no suspense surrounding Charlie's behavior as far as I was concerned. I found her to be irritating. She held on to what she did to Finn and other secrets for far too long. I thought Finn's sense of forgiveness and putting aside his resentment of Charlie for Ethan.

I did enjoy the audio book and the suspense at the end.

Finn and Charlie were High School sweethearts. Finn loved Charlie from the moment he met her when she moved into town. He didn’t see her as a spoiled rich girl. Then she left him and married someone else. Finn spiraled and was almost kicked out of the military.

This was a great second chance book. Janie Crouch has a way with world-building and character development. I cried, laughed and rooted for these characters. We learn not only about the main characters, but we also learn about the side characters as the story continues. I also like that the author makes strong heroines who fight for themselves. She also makes great alphamales that are sometimes gentle and show their feelings.

I just love this series!
