Maybe because I read this during a very tremulous period of my school year with approaching exams that affected my perception in this book.

Might be close to the books I'm putting in my "books that I should have read 5 years ago" tabs, but at the same time it's not??

Cinder fits in your Cinderella archetype of character. But instead of a fairy god mother magically enchanting her natural features, a whole completely new twist in this classic fairy tale was woven by Marissa Meyer together with themes of sci-fic, cyborgs and intergalactic politics. She turns out to be an actual intergalactic species who have ingrained skills to enchant (to the point of manipulation) other. Not only that, she the long, lost royal princess that can overthrow the tyrannical Queen Levana (always got the vowels mixed, lol!) of the Lunar kingdom

I honestly think Kai's character is a little bit weak? Though I don't blame him nor the author. His youth and the untimely death of his father the former Emperor was indeed emphasised throughout the novel. Poor Peony though. I like that the author at the least gave Cinder one human friend that is not Kai nor the scientist.

I do think I like the character and the plot-twists involved with Dr Erland. His character presentation from being the eccentric royal scientist to undercover critic of his home Lunar and a revolutionary to return the rightful Princess Selene, now Cinder, back into the throne. I do hope their pseudo-father and daughter relationship develops in the continuing series.

That said, despite the 4 star, I still felt compelled to continue to the next book. (Even if I indeed borrowed all 6 books of this series in the library, I could still feel compelled to drop this). And I like how Marissa unpacks the very plot twist of Cinder's true identity at the last chapter. It is indeed cliche and something that I should have seen coming. Yet the smooth dialogue and a focus on Dr Erland's persuasion to Cinder was what made it sooooo good in my opinion.

I am very much looking forward to the second book.

“Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time.”
― Marissa Meyer, Cinder

Marissa Meyer has done such an incredible job at retelling the story of Cinderella, adding a huge amount of twists. (Not complaining.)

I absolutely loved the fact that this book was such a quick paced read! Cinder had so much sci-fi, fantasy, superstitions, and surprises in it, it was extremely enjoyable. I HAVE to get my hands on the next book soon. No doubt it'll be another page turner.

This book was soo good!! It was the perfect mix of sci-fi and mystery. Not gonna lie, the first 50 or so pages are so slow, but after that it’s like a whirlwind of new discoveries, questions, and just a little bit of love.

I'm deducting a full star for how unfinished this is at the end. The second book sounds intriguing but worried that this idea isn't going to successfully last over an entires series. We'll see.

Much better than I expected, Cinder's tale is unique and the ending was perfect, though predictable. I can't wait to read Scarlett.

Though I guessed the big plot twist, it didn't change how absurdly creative and addicting this book was. Love this entire concept, and I'll be writhing around uncomfortably until I get the second book.
