PUGTATO

I discovered Pugtato a few months ago but I had not read the book yet. A coworker showed me the cover and I was so happy because I was finally going to get to read the picture book. I got to Tomatoad and busted out laughing. The illustrations are ADORABLE! I want to see if the public library will buy the other Pugtato books and I still think I may purchase them for myself.

Pugs and potatoes are two of my favorite things, so basically this book was made specifically for me.

3,5/5. This book has two main elements. First the story, a creature find a special object and goes around asking his friend what they think it is. Something we often see in children book and not the most fun/original thing to do. The second element however, was way better, every creature of the book is a mix of an animal and a vegetable with a name that also mix both, the title illustrate the concept well enough. This was perfectly done for most creature, one or two a bit less, it was good, funny and well done. Good and less good, but overall an okay b ook worth reading!

"Pugtato Finds a Thing" drew me in with it's adorable concept and cover. Within the pages, you follow Pugtato as he goes about his day, and he discovers a mysterious Thing buried in the dirt. He goes around and asks other mismatched animal veggies (Such as the "Purrsnip" or the Unicorn-on-the-cob, which I LOVE) what they think the Thing is supposed to be. This is a great picture book about following your heart and sharing a good hug when you don't have an answer. There's something about the text that felt a little choppy when I read it out loud, but it's overshadowed by the imaginative creatures in Pugtato's world and the enjoyable illustrations.

A Christian book that tells kids to follow their heart? Ugh! Not the message I want to share with my kids. Overall, it is a cute story about friendship but nothing special.

Pugtato is a super cute hybrid of a potato and a dog. Each of his friends is another vegetable slash animal hybrid as well. When Pugtato finds something shiny and purple and pretty, he doesn’t know what it is, so he asks all his friends to help him figure it out.

This book is about funny vegetable/animal hybrids, friendship, discovering new things, and silly rhymes. I think any child with a sense of humor will enjoy this tale and beg for more of Pugtato and his friends. I cannot wait to share this with my library.

I gave Pugtato 5/5 stars and recommend for kids ages 3 – 7 years old.

Silly, but not funny. Lacks heart and/or soul. Portmanteaus without purpose. I wouldn’t give it to a child as a gift. (I saw it in a gift guide, so I wanted to read it to see if I would want to give it to a kid.)

Pugtato Finds a Thing by Zondervan (Author) and Sophie Corrigan (Illustrator) is a super cute book! Pugtato finds a purple Thing one day and goes to each one of his friends to figure out what it is. He thinks he is not as smart as everyone else, so goes through each friend in the garden. I love how every friend is a food/animal combo, ex: Caticorn. I think it is very unique and it will allow kids to learn about some vegetables that they might not eat all the time.

I think the illustrations in a kids book is key and they did not dissapoint here! The illustrations were great! This light hearted book is great for kids! The last illustration is my favorite!. The book is written in rhyme so it is more of a fun read.

I would recommend this book!

Thank you to Net Galley and Zonderkidz-Books for providing me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
