Falling Sideways by Tom Holt

I might go back to this one at some point, but it seems to focus more on clever wording and funny sidenotes than like, a cohesive plot or real descriptions. Not inherently a bad thing— it did make me laugh a few times— it just wasn’t enough to hold my interest especially bc I have other books I’m looking forward to getting to right now.

Okay, forewarned and all: the book is 4 stars until the last fifty or so pages, when Holt just stirs the pot like crazy for a whackadoo, 3-to-be-generous stars conclusion.

But this is quite funny, very British. Recommended.

Another solid offering by Mr. Holt. Funny and the plot is probably more solid than some of his other stories.

Worth the read.

Horrid. Actually, that isn't quite fair...the first half was brilliant. And then the plot got completely lost and it wasn't worth reading the rest (I did, but rather wished I hadn't). It's a shame, as the first part was so good. I wish Tom Holt would rewrite the second half.

Very funny but absolutely crazy book. Twist and turns come so thick and fast you don't know what's up and what's down, but clearly that's intentional, and gives empathy for the main character who is in the same situation. Didn't take me long to read it as I wanted to keep reading and see what insane twist would come next.

Along the lines of the Terry Pratchett version of sci-fi humor, this book has an enormously improbable origin story for the human race. We've been engineered by frogs. Frogs? FROGS.

The humor escaped me every so often. Tom Holt is EXTREMELY BRITISH and a lot of his references were very cultural, but I got enough that I actually laughed out loud a couple of times, which always says something about a book. I'd like to read more by him.
