I had a really hard time at the beginning of the book, it even got me into a readers block but at the end
(once they started “dating”)
I started loving the book. Definitely not the best book of the series though. Still can’t wait to start the next book though

I'm mixed about this book. The relationship with Jules and Chen is good in the end. And I like the "enemies" to lovers aspect. However...

Spoilers ahead:
There's a difference between make up sex and revenge sex that borders abuse. When Jules comes clean to Chen, the sex scene following was almost enough for me to DNF it. I get that Chen was hurt, but that was uncalled for and very hard to read from a DV survivors standpoint.

I think the plot was good but there was almost too much s*x. Sometimes it seemed thrown in there at a scene where I didn’t think it was necessary? But idk. Who am I to judge.

I liked this book until Chapter 48. The FMC the FMC does mess up but what MMC does as “revenge” is unspeakable and at that point I was hoping g they wouldn’t get back together. What he did was unforgivable. It was abusive and no relationship can come back from that. The fact that the FMC forgave him made what he did “ok” and nothing about it was ok. The author tries to make the MMC as a lovable character that has a big heart but is just dealing with a lot of loss. What he did in Chapter 48 is inexcusable and testament to a persons character and not just the result of repressed issues.

Out of the four books of the serie, this is the one that feels more realistic. I feel like the characters could be real life people

Hate to love.
Good girl
Who did this to you
Only one bed
Library scene!!
Enemies with benefits
Best first date I’ve ever read about!

The spice varied in terms of if it felt like it contributed to the story or not… - I’m glad a lot of the spicy scenes were written from female pov because they would have seemed like SA if written from mmc pov 😬

I really didn’t think that I would like this book.  But damn.  Having never read anything by this author I still found it easy to understand the side characters and friendships that were most likely in other books within this book world.

But overall, Josh and Jules had such a good dynamic and their banter was quite entertaining.  Both characters were lovable, complex, and had good depth to them.  I loved how they both turned to the other when they needed someone even if they weren’t always on the best of terms they were always there for each other.

The friendship between Josh and Alex was written really well and I really liked that they worked through their issues.

Also there was way more going on with the plot than I had expected.  Jules having a messed up past that comes back to haunt her one last time and the ending is rather satisfying with it.

I don’t HATE this series, as it’s simply a brain refresher in between large complex series. I also don’t love it.

So far all of these books have followed the same pattern of:
- two people dislike each other somewhat
- they hang out once or twice (usually against their will)
- they realise the other person is attractive and make a bunch of “you wish you could get with this” jokes
- they give each other a nickname
- they have sex, usually rough with a hint towards different kinks
- they secretly sleep with each other for a few months
- they love each other now and the man will say “no one else can touch you or I’ll kill him”
- there’s some plot related reason that they break up
- some time passes and one of them grovels/schemes and they get back together
- big reveal to the friend group that they were actually dating the whole time
- we get a hint at the next couple

However what truly gave me the ICK in this book is when Jules
admits to stealing the painting, but it’s fine because she managed to get it back and get rid of her blackmail and Josh tells her he forgives her, alluding to “makeup sex” where he hate f**ks her painfully, and as she finishes, inflicts more pain and says “you know I said I forgive you, I lied” and then screams at her to leave telling her her only good quality was that she slept with him. F***ing foul. Especially after she had opened up to him about almost being r**ed as a teen and how she thought that’s all she was good for. Absolutely ruined the character for me. I would not leave my drink with that man
