This is a cute bedtime story book, drawing from Shakespeare, of all places, for the description of Mab, who was queen of the fairies, but here is called the Queen of Dreams.

The reason it is only three stars? It starts off being about a kid that is hard to get to bed and to sleep, and turns into a mother giving her daughter something to think about as she drifts off. So, it starts off being funny, and moves into the world of dreams.

So, it probably would be a good thing to read to children at night, but just that. Not outstanding. Not a read-me-again, just a good enough book, with some very lovely pictures.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing this book for an honest review.

Beautifully illustrated, and based on Mercutio's soliloquy in Romeo and Juliet, a perfect bedtime story for young children.

When adorable Mabel does not want to go to bed, her mother tells her the story of the fae dream queen, who visits only after you go to sleep. I loved the illustrations, especially the flying carriage.

Mabel doesn't want to go to sleep; there are too many other things she would rather do! But when Mabel asks for a story, Mommy knows just which one will not only send Mabel off too sleep, but will paint her dreams.

Mabel and the Queen of Dreams is a beautifully illustrated picture book. Some of the pages have embellishments around the text, enhancing the impression of the illustrations as stand alone works of art. Based on the writings of Shakespeare, the book is about Mabel, a little girl who doesn't want to sleep, and the story she is told by her mother. The story she tells of the Fae Queen is rich with visual descriptions and other sensory details. I can easily imagine this book becoming a regular part of a child's bedtime ritual.

Mabel won't go to sleep so her mom tells her about the Queen of Dreams, a Fae who paints children's dreams. The story is very simple but the imagery is vivid and calming.
