You see that start and finish date? This hasn't happened in over a decade. I literally couldn't put the book down. I wish I had this story when I was a teen and it reminds me of the best of what the 80's brat pack movie genre had to offer when I was a YA myself. Not that this book feels dated, it's just right for the times we live in, but it showcases the best thing about being at the cusp of adulthood, finding one's place in the world, discovering an identity among peers...all wrapped up in a heist caper and laugh-out-loud funny dialogue. When I was done I dropped the book into my daughter's lap and said, "Read this!".
Whomever has bought the rights to make the movie because this needs to happen.

This cross between the Breakfast Club and a heist novel just didn't work for me. I couldn't understand the character motivations. I couldn't tell if it was a redemption novel or not.
This has a The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks feel to it, only with a male main voice. The goal is to subvert (or embarrass, or take over) the work of the Chaos Club, mastermind pranksters at school. Why? Because Max, a heist movie fan, was set up by the Chaos Club and they must pay. The question is, of course, did they actually do it? or is there someone else at work here?
My worry is that readers will try to emulate some of these pranks and having worked at a school where there was a prank that went wrong (ok, several pranks went wrong) that just seems irresponsible.

Pure fun and entertaining!! The pranks were great and executed in such a way that was realistic and possible to pull through! Most of the characters were were established as the 'outcasts' in the beginning of the book (your typical YA outcasted trope here), but thought they branched off into each of their own self identities and it was refreshing to see that (although, maybe perhaps a little bit more on the Wheeler and Adleta). Highly recommended for summer or a fast paced read! Definitely hope a sequel will be written!
"Ocean's 11 meets the Breakfast Club".
yep, pretty much :)
4/5 STARS :D

Love this! I'm a sucker for pranks and heists and everything like that in YA. Gripping storyline and an engaging narrator!
My daughter randomly decided to do the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl again this year and this is one of the picks. So I figured I'd also give it a shot. It was just a really fun book to read. I flew through it. Had it not been DragonCon weekend, it would have taken me way less time. I'd definitely recommend it.
Though, to be honest, I find it really hard to believe about the punishment for the trophy thing. There was no evidence provided for Max to actually get into trouble. And the VP totally reminded me of the Strickland from Back to the Future.
