To be comepletely honest, I was greatly disappointed with the way the story ended. There was no explanation of any sort, and really no closure, as we dont find out why the murderer kills the victim. Suppostions are made but not verified. It could have been laid out much better.

Weak motivations in this one. The dark secret was very dark, and entirely plausible. However I did not see how it was much of a motivation for murder, especially considering the personality of the perpetrator and their tenuous relationship. I may have liked it better had I been more familiar with the hero, Runcorn, of the Monk series. His romance and his longing for a woman whom I would have presumably met in an earlier novel was sweet and had a happy end. However, once again, I did not understand why she would have fallen in love with him going by his self –described lifelong character weaknesses, and her beauty and intelligence. Still, it was a nice example of an upstairs/downstairs romance, a favorite trope of mine, if done right.

ummmm...I thought I'd like to listen to a Christmas story and this sounded interesting...except it wasn't about Christmas and was mostly an internal monologue of thoughts and extremely detailed descriptions of the landscape, scenery, etc. Not quite my style. :)

A woman is brutally murdered on a island north of Wales. Mr. Runcorn of the London police is vacationing.

I really like Anne Perry mysteries, but sometimes wonder how between her and Agatha there are any inhabitants left in Britain.

Extreme Book Nerd Challenge 2021 - Category #3
Challenge Topic: A building on the cover.

Superintendent Runcorn is taking a vacation on Anglesey Island, but the vacation turn into work when he finds the body of a young woman and discovers there really isn't anyone capable to do the investigation.

I liked the book but it was a little slow to get into. Maybe i would have felt different about Runcorn if I had read some of the previous stories (this is 5th in the series), but I just couldn't connect to him for some reason. The ending was quite unexpected.

The picture on the cover of the book however was very beautiful. I believe it is the old church that is on the Island.
