This was such a beautiful book 🤍

Juliette as a character spoke to me so much, be it through her fashion sense or her manners, it felt so nice to see her be able to find love!

This is friends-to-lovers done the best way with Adrian definitely making mistakes (!!) but owning up to them, figuring out how to best apologize to Jules and finally also figuring out that she's the one who's gonna break his ban on relationships.

After one conflict, I would've liked some more time for them to start being friends (or more) again but then something else happens and I can excuse them not having a proper conversation for once because the following scenes *are* extremely cute.

We see such healthy brother relationships here (even if Adrian is still working on them) and I'm so excited to see where this series is gonna go!

Not to spoil anything but the last scene actually made me tear up — if your man doesn't quote romance quotes from classics to you, is he even your man?

To more Carter brothers to fall in love with 🤭

P.S.: Never have I ever read a close-door romance with characters this horny, it was *so* funny, this is the religious women rep we need (just to be clear, Jules isn't explicitly religious at all but I read her as that because I'm often a horny religious woman)

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the start of the But He's a Carter Brother Series and can be read as a standalone. However, if you want to read more about Adrian's sister & when the brothers first make their appearance, then I strongly encourage you to read [b:One Last Play|140341362|One Last Play (Sweet Peach #4)|Annah Conwell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1682907572l/140341362._SX50_.jpg|156208958] as well. The book's blurb gives you an idea of what to expect, though do be aware that grief, anxiety, panic attacks, emotional and physical abuse are themes that are lightly explored. When I first learned that the Cater brothers were getting a series, I was most looking forward to Adrian's book and it was everything and more that I could've asked for. This is a beautiful story about two opposites opening up their hearts to each other and being what the other needed.

Juliette's past may have left scars on her heart and influenced how she interacts with others but it didn't stop her from wanting to form a true connection with someone. She has a kind, friendly, and soft nature. Living alone away from her best friend and being surrounded by people older than her only made her want for a friend stronger, which is one of the reasons why she's determined to befriend Adrian when he moves in next door to her. Similar to Juliette, Adrian's past has also shaped how he forms relationships with others. He's the type of grump that's guarded, wary, and prioritizes work over socializing. Being friends, or anything else, with Juliette isn't something that he's interested in yet he finds himself unable to ignore her and her efforts to become close.

I absolutely adored Juliette. She was vulnerable but willing to take the first steps when it came to her friendship with Adrian. It may seem like something simple but, given her personality and what she had been through, it was brave of her and I admired that. While she was determined and eager, she was also observant and wasn't pushy in her approach. As for Adrian, how could I not love him? Whenever he tried closing himself off from Juliette, he regretted it. Without realizing it, he became attentive and protective towards her. His friendship with her also helped him to open up a bit more to his brothers and that was nice to read. Him and Juliette subtly influenced each other to make changes in their respective lives that were for the better. They had quite a few similarities but balanced each other so well it was impossible not fall in love with their love story.

If you love slow burn, then you are going to be thrilled with Adrian and Juliette's romance. I try not to use such words when writing my reviews but the word "delicious" is what best describes how I feel about the development of their relationship. Because of their personalities, the pacing of their feelings changing and growing felt just right. More than anything, they each needed a friend so I liked that they became that for each other first. Mutual attraction existed since they first met and the tension between them, especially when the flirting starts, will not disappoint. This is a clean romance with mild steamy kisses. The conflict is internal but the story is a low stress one. Besides their individual growth and the romance, you will like Juliette's friendship with Caroline and love Adrian's brothers. Their dynamics were fun to read and I loved how they embraced Juliette as one of their own. There are moments that may make you teary eyed, though maybe they'll be happy tears, but there's plenty moments that will make you laugh and swoon because of the tender romance. Personally, this is my favorite read of the year. It was a great start to the series and I cannot wait to read the rest of the Carter books!
