One is never too old for fairy tales, not when the said fairy tales are as crazy and yet constantly testing the limits of your imagination as Thakurmar Jhuli. From stories of magic and evil elder queens, and princes disguised as monkeys and rakkhoshis that would do anything for the taste of human blood, there is something otherworldly and enchanting and riveting about the stories in this book that you won't find in any other children's book.

These are the stories I grew up with and it was great to find a translated version. Though a lot is lost in translation, it was still great to rediscover the stories from my childhood.

A good collection, but it seems like the translation was honestly not very good. The translator did best with the little snippets of verse, but the prose left something to be desired (which is odd because generally translating verse is more difficult than prose...)
