I read this for a book club. Superhero comics aren't normally my jam, but I am pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this!

Ladies, gents, and non-binary friends, after 27 reads this year so far, I finally have a five star read! Took me long enough and I'm so glad I picked this up! This is my first foray into superhero comics and wow, was I utterly delighted! I honestly think I am entering my comics era because I loved this volume so much. The art is magnificent, the characters are compelling (read: Dick Grayson is incredibly hot), and the story was just solid from the worldbuilding to the heartfelt emotional moments. Absolutely brilliant! Definitely ordering the next volumes soon.

Although I’ve always loved superhero shows and movies, I’ve never actually read a comic. However, after recently falling back into my obsession with DC, a friend lent me Volume 1 of Tom Taylor’s Nightwing comics and I am hooked.

Taylor’s writing is the perfect blend of hilarious and dark. Nightwing is one of my favorite heroes, and Taylor writes him perfectly. I also loved the Batfamily cameos (especially that of Babs and Tim, I love them so much). Not to mention Nightwing’s dog, Haley (aka Bitewing), who I’m obsessed with. 🥹

The art was amazing, too, and I loved how the artists played with space to keep my attention! I don’t typically branch out into graphic novels or comics very often, but I’m glad I did, and I’ll definitely be picking up more in the future! 🫶🏼

i liked this book, to put it blatently. nightwing is my favorite member of the bat-fam. i have not read a lot of comics at this point but it was enjoyable nonetheless. the art is amazing. not a fan of nightwing and batgirl together. i like him better with starfire. the villan was kind of cheesy. hate the fact that alfred died i thought he was immortal, still upset about that.
would reccomend.

The art… 10/10.

2.5. This was good, but there were a couple things I didn’t like. The whole sister thing coming out of nowhere… this late in the game it just looks tacked on and a plot device, something that was done because they ran out of ideas for the character. The villain: Heartless… *HAHAHAHAHAHAHA*! Oh my gosh, I think he was supposed to be scary but it was SO SILLY. His stupid mask and the wall of plastic jars were just so ridiculous I couldn’t stop chuckling. Please get a better villain.

Overall I thought the story was pretty good. It wasn’t the most complex plot, but still enjoyable. I loved seeing Tim Drake Robin and Barbara. My sister is going to kill me but… I ship it. I ship Dick and Barbara (if you find my body somewhere, it was my sister Phoebe, a really hardcore Nightwing-Starfire fan). The panels were really creative and once again the art was fantastic. I can’t really say much about the coloring since I read it on a kindle, so it was black and white (I’ll try to find it someplace in color). A fun read.

This was the Nightwing I missed.  And with the fallout of Alfred continuing I really, really loved coming back here.
