The writing of this book reminded me of something I’d find on wattpad in 2015. No thx.
Also, the sex scenes (the one I read, anyway) felt too sudden and was completely unnecessary. It also wasn’t at all what I expected, but that’s on me for not reading content warnings, I guess.

Fortuna Sworn

Review:
dnf'ed 126 pages in, thought this would get me back into fantasy but I guess it was not the right book.

So, these are my reading notes while struggling through this book...

- The word mate is not on a good side in my mind due to miss gurl Sarah J Maas, and the fact that he called her that not even 50 pages in??? My mind is so confused-

- I don't care for dirty scenes in the beginning of a book because I literally don't know the characters. It's just so uninteresting. So, WHERE'S THE SLOW-BURN???

- Bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored bored-

- I think I put too much pressure onto this book to get me back into what I usually loved to read, though I’ll probably give the book a second try...(maybe).

This book did a number on me. I don't think there was one moment in this first book in which I felt good. There were numerous triggers, the turn of events constantly made me feel negative emotions, and I feel that the ending was the only time that I felt I was able to come up gasping for air. If this is what the author intended, then Sutton did an amazing job, but I debated not finishing this book because it put me into such a depressive state. The ending pulled me in enough that I might consider moving to the next book in Sutton's series, but I need a break...

A high 3.5. Although the first half was hard to get though, the second half got me. It was so good!! I absolutely fell in love with Fortuna, and cannot wait to see where she goes next. I’m curious but also hesitant to see what’s next. Pain and suffering, I’m assuming? Can’t wait!

This book follows Fortuna whose brother is stolen by fae, she agrees to marry a fae in order to get her brother back and obviously there are a lot of strings attached that she did not realise (eye roll) she finds out shes married like the unseelie king. Things ensue from here.

Undecided of how I feel about this book. I have attempted to read it twice and the third time I finished and still felt unsure of what I think. Its so hard with book 1 in a series, especially a fantasy series as there is so much to learn and unfold. Going with my gut right at this moment I don't think it was that great. Thinking back on it I wasn't super intrigued, it was a very typical kind of fantasy plot. I want so badly to love it but I just don't think its for me sadly.

The ending made the book imo. It started off strong and ended strong but the middle dragged a bit. Maybe it was just the Audio version idk but took me almost a month to finish. But I will definitely keep reading the series bc I really want to know what happens!!
