putting this review out there after my reread last year- this is genuinely one of the most memorable books i've ever read. i picked it up one day mistaking it for another book, starting reading it, and liked it quite a bit. i think it's just very heartwarming overall - one of the most incredible books i've ever read.

A heartwarming book with gorgeous relationships and making us think about the power of a slow, peaceful, country life.  A special book.

This book tells the story of a young boy who is evacuated from war-torn London to the country, where he lives with a kind old man. The boy grows a lot living with him, from learning how to paint and write to making new friends and building his strength after having been neglected and abused by his mother. When his mother asks him to return to London, he realises how much he has developed under Mister Tom's loving care. At times, the story was comfortably slow, as Willie got used to country life, but the sadder events seemed to come quickly, and although these moments were emotional, it was beautiful to see how Tom became a father to Will, and how Will grew to be a healthy, happy young man.
