This book wound up being too much for me, a little too far into the absurd and outlandish. I have difficulty suspending my disbelief that much on a contemporary novel. I just didn't buy a lot of what the characters were doing and the situations they found themselves in- a lot of "too convenient" scenarios. It wasn't a terrible read, but I found it hard to relate to and thus hard to care about.

I've got a lot of deja vu's in here, which is (un)fortunately my euphemism for repetitive. A case of anterograde amnesia while on the move to save the kidnapped family sounds intriguing but I have seen a lot of the concepts that are similar with King's (even though I've only read one) and Gerritsen's. I'm near DNF-ing this but I'm glad it's done, I only liked it at its peak because the rising action is weak.

Imagine having no collection of your life 5 minutes prior to present, on a repeat cycle. Your brain wipe out every single new memory that you had. It spell hell for Jo Beckett who usually involve in crime solving that have dead body. This time she need to know what kind & how nuts her patient is.
If i have to compare this to the first book, this one fall slightly behind. It has a good premise; a man with an eraser in his head. However, crime involving a radioactive chemical is way too typical.
Everything else wins; the humor & the characters (Fred especially is funny).
Overall, it's not a disappointing book.

I love Meg Gardiner. I really enjoyed the way this plot played out and the twist of the man who couldn't remember anything made this such a thriller. I think the conclusion was a foregone conclusion, but not predictable. I don't love Jo as much as Evan, but I like her and Gabe a LOT!

beefy, obvious military type men in real life??? ..... I'll pass, no thanks.
Fictional, beefy, machismo, athletic, manly men, that can pull you in their arms in such a way you don't feel bad showing the emotion you've been holding in after going through sooooo much trauma (can we stop acting like you also wouldn't become a snotty tear soaked mess when on the verge of death), again GOOD FATHER, all around badass??? Hell yeah. Gabe Quintana.... HELLO.
I love Jo as well. she's amazing. the little tidbits of her sister small pranks were great. The neighbor hijinks! Also I liked that this mystery was different and still so jam packed. I still have a few questions afterward, onto the next one!!

This is one of the most high-octane mystery/thrillers that I have read in awhile. I'm really liking this series in general, but this particular episode had a lot at stake.

I am admittedly a touch reviewer. In the last four years, I've read 364,028 pages in 1,162 books, and I’ve rated just 41 books a 5.

(I'll insert here my typical complaint about Goodreads being a 5 point scale vs 10)

I've now read three books in this series, but not in order, and they hang together really well as a series, but also stand alone. Of the three I've read, this was without question my favorite. I found myself intrigued, a few times laughing out loud, and completely admiring the tight writing.

This book inspired me to take another stab at writing something of my own soon.
