This was very good. It brings to light a lot of the ugliness that happens in the name of religion.

Much of this book seems to boil down American crises in masculinity, and the economic and cultural anxieties of dominant social groups in the face of progressive changes and expansion of minority group rights.

This was a clear history and discussion of how the current evangelical movement has developed, and the underlying focus on patriarchy and masculine leadership that has led the movement away from what is (in my opinion) actual biblical christianity.

This book does a great job of chronicling evangelical Christian perspectives on masculinity over the course of America's history. It is well written and researched, but it was really dense to get through. It reads much more like a history book than anything else.

i am not in the mood at the moment. I also feel like this book might be better physically read instead of listened to. Definitely not the type that i can half ass pay attention to and still be on track.

3.5 stars! I’ve always been a small town church member, so I was unfamiliar with some of the people mentioned. Interesting info to listen to, but it was hard to follow some of the unfamiliar names. I would have done better in print, where I could have stopped and done research on the individuals.

This was a well-researched nonfiction look into the evangelical church and how it became politicized over the past 50 years.
