This YA romance was a great book to kick off my holiday reading this year. I enjoyed the characters (they are angsty teens so keep that in mind). I loved the setting. The bookish elements and love of books and writing were really fun to read about. This was perfectly enjoyable. The pacing of the story felt perfect. The character development was wonderful and hit all of the points I would have looked for. Such a sweet story!

Literally so boring, couldn’t even finish it. I just couldn’t get into it, I didn’t care about the characters or the story.

Ummm it was okayy - like a meh read... the romance felt a bit too rushed and not dwelled on enough but at the same time it felt like the entire book was only about the romance...

“Books are an escape. Books are a reminder that opposites can exist at the same time, both good and bad, positive and negative.”

It’s was a cute little holiday book.
Young Adult. No Smut.

I love books that are about other books (the plot isn’t about books but it was a cute topic to the plot)

This book was…fine. Given that it’s a YA book, I may have enjoyed it more as a teenager, but as a 30-something, a lot of the plot points and characterizations drove me a little nuts. (These teens acting like their parents finding out they have a secret life goal/dream is akin to if their parents were to find out they’re a criminal. Is it REALLY the end of the world if your parents find out you have hobbies? Let alone an anonymous book blog?) Also, it was wildly confusing for me at the beginning knowing there’s a real Holley, NY that is in this general region of NY, but is not on a lake and not the town in this story. I got that the author was going for a fake version of Seneca Falls/It’s a Wonderful Life, but it could’ve used some more creativity with the name, or at least fact checking. Did I mishear on the audiobook or did Lila say that Holiday By The Lake came out in the 90s? What are the chances the movie/town would be THIS popular after less than 30 years? A movie that new doesn’t exactly have the longevity and cultural impact where the whole filming location/inspiration’s local economy depends on it. And not to split hairs, but if Lila is a senior in high school there’s no way the NY labor laws would allow her to work THAT much even over the holidays. (Unless MAYBE she already turned 18? Did it say and I missed it?) Also what’s with the internship before she even gets to college? Is that a thing gen z students do? What internship would realistically pick her over a college kid?

Just in time for (almost) the end of december!

Pros: The last quote *is* the "point-five."
The cute little winter/holiday related quotes ❤️
The main character is a book lover herself. The girl wrote blogs about the christmas books she read, and her reviews were written into the book!
I *love* the fact that we were able to read the holiday blogs
It was a good Christmas book to start with.

Cons: The one booktuber I watched said the main character, and the man had a mid-act breakup. But I wouldn't exactly consider it that. It also wasn't annoying-
They didn't date through the whole book. There were sweet moments, yes. But, there was no "will you be my girlfriend?" moment
Was mediocre at best.
