4.5 stars. DANG! My lovely Geography teacher recommended this to me and I was NOT disappointed! When I heard this catchy title (check!) and that it was a Fairytale retelling (Double check!!) and that the main character had a disability (TRIPLE CHECK!) I was totally sold and hyped to start. And I wasn't disappointed!! While I didn't particularly love Harper, and didn't understand Rhen (what can I say? Weremonster princes who run away from their problems and have a hard time taking responsibility for their actions are just confusing to me) they both grew on me and I was shipping them by the end! With the interesting writing style, the Fairytale feel and the real-life edge mixed in, it was truly a unique and fascinating book! I always find myself at a loss for words while writing reviews but I'll leave by recommending this book and saying one thing and one thing only: Noah has my soul and I'd die for him. That's all!

This book started off strong and I really enjoyed reading it but half way through, I got so bored that I didn’t think I would continue with the story. However, I pushed through and finally finished reading it today. Also, I so could see the ending miles away... pretty predictable.

She’s not like the other girls. She’s the girl that ✨cares ✨

What a fun time this was. God knows I’m a total sucker for fairytale retellings and this version of Beauty and the Beast was great!

Also bonus points for the representation of cerebral palsy in Harper. It was not the main focus in the book and did not take the focus away from her storyline, but it was mentioned often enough to remind me whenever I forgot.
People with disabilities breaking stigmas by doing badass things? Abso-fuckin-lutely.

I have to admit I prefer Grey over Rhen WHOOPS

Prince Rhen of Emberfall has been cursed by an enchantress to live the season of his 18th birthday until a woman falls in love with him...which proves difficult when (at the end of the season) he turns into a hideous monster that wreaks havoc in his land.
Harper lives in modern-day DC with her mother and brother. Her father walked out on them when he wasn't able to pay off the loan sharks that were threatening them. It's up to Harper's brother to keep the thugs from hurting Harper or their mother.
When Harper is kidnapped and taken to Emberfall, both Rhen and Harper try to fulfill their own goals. Rhen tries to break the curse, while Harper tries to return to her home.

A re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. A Curse So Dark and Lonely stays true to the plot of Beauty and the Beast, but is still wholly original and surprising. The characters are flawed, but still strong, and overall, very likable. Good mix of action/adventure, logic/strategy, and introspection. Highly recommend!

Kinda boring, but maybe just not for me. TBH skimmed the last chapters of the book.

I re-read this book in anticipation of the final book in the trilogy. I liked the plot and Harper was a great heroine. I didn’t want to like Rhen at first but after awhile I did start to like him. I did like this book but it wasn’t earth shattering. I own the series because someone bought this book for me and I would like to complete the series. While I did enjoy the characters there aren’t ones that will live in my heart forever like some.

I cannot even explain how much this series means to me. It did something to me that no book has ever done before. It gave me mental breakdowns, tears, and smiles unlike anything else. I became deeply attached to the characters 4 chapters in and finished each book within 3 days of starting. It is by far the best series I read this year and, if I'm being honest, quite possibly the best series I've ever read. My comfort series.
