This one had a better pacing than 1 & 2 and for me was more interesting. I find Roo and Eric boring so far, though at this point it is through their backgrounds and on to their parts in the war which are more interesting. There is also more about all the previous characters and descendants. It was great to finally see more Pug and Tomas.
This series is a part of a much bigger series and so far has been a very long and winding road. New characters over every turn with a few recurring. Everything connects and winds together. Though some events that are mentioned in this book happened only a few books ago it is written in a way that it feels long ago like the passage of time that is the books reality.

The war between the kingdom and the invaders is done well and the revaluations are interesting. However there are some flaws that hold this back from greatness. Plus the demon kings get defeated way too easily

Thank fuck that’s over, finally. That must be what, a seven book lead up?! Glad we’ve finally seen what must be the climax, but also perturbed that there’s one more book left?!

Nakor proves more interesting book by book, fast becoming my favourite character. Nice to see Tomas again, did not love the Gamina/Jimmy line. Did also not love Miranda, the impertinent tart.

Ugh, the last chapter (28) was a whole lot of cringe.

The reason this book rates so highly for me is that it is highly influential in regards to previous books. Meaning, a lot of things that happened in books 1 and 2 come to fruition in book 3 (this book). Characters that are massively impactful make grand displays of character development, power, wit, etc. The battle between good and bad reaches a pinnacle, and we get front row seats.
I personally really enjoy reading through battles designed by Feist, and this book is no different. Riding along as the Kingdom stands its ground for their people and land made me about as patriotic for a fictional land as I could get. I also enjoyed having a look into the other pace of someone trying to flee/stay ahead of the fighting as best they can (no spoiles- if you've read the book you know who I am talking about).
Very solid read in this Saga. It seems as the Serpent War continues, it only gets better!
