I really enjoyed BURIED LIES and it was a great follow up to the previous one in the series. Poppy has finally opened her bookstore/bakery and she's determined to make a new home in Crimson Point. As a teenager, Poppy was horribly bullied by other kids at school and lies and rumors trashed her reputation around her judgmental small town. Poppy will do anything to make sure no one knows about her hard past. I loved Poppy as our heroine; she's incredibly hard working and dedicated but also really sweet. She's had to grow up fast and her experiences have her reluctant to trust other people, especially men. Poppy has a quiet and gentle nature that comes across really nicely but she's also so resilient and strong and I loved that contrast of strength and shyness.

Looking out for others is deep in Noah's blood and bones and it's why he's a Sheriff. He's the perfect protective and loyal hero who recognizes Poppy's needs and goes at her pace. Noah's tough and masculine but I also loved that he has a softer side that just wants to make Poppy happy. I also truly appreciate that Kaylea Cross wrote a hero who isn't obsessed with the fact that his ex-wife cheated on him. This was so refreshing in the genre because it showed Noah's maturity and his confidence that he can move on and still find happiness.

Noah and Poppy take things slowly in their relationship but I liked this slow burn because it felt very natural for the story and them as individuals. While they might go slowly they have plenty of chemistry and I loved them together. We also get to see some more developments in our side characters, Molly and Jase, setting up their story which I have a feeling will be pretty emotional.

Outside the romance, there was a great suspenseful mystery regarding a serial killer that has been hunting in the nearby areas and has now targeted Poppy. I found it very interesting that a large part of the story occurs after Poppy's run-in with our bad guy and I liked how Cross explored the mental and emotional toll of that experience. I'm very curious to see how this series continues.

Poppy had endured much in her young life, and when her secrets came to light, she didn't think she would ever escape her past. Noah was so supportive that she finally thought life was going well for her. Their romance was sweet. They had great chemistry, and their little flirtation was cute. Noah, Sierra, Molly, Jase, and Beckett all had her back.

I was surprised both Molly and Poppy were dealing with traumatic events in this book. Usually, there is only one drama going on at a time. I had a suspect in mind in Poppy's case, and then the author artfully redirected my suspicion. Turns out I was right about my first suspect.

This book had me holding me breath through the some of the later chapters. I mean, I knew how it was going to end, because it was a "romantic" suspense. But it still had me on the edge of my seat. What happened to Poppy was so twisted, I couldn't imagine how she was able to function. I am truly at a loss for words.

Poppy finally got the acceptance from the residents of Crimson Point that she never received from when she was growing up. Noah and Poppy got their well deserved HEA.

This would have been a 5 star read for me had Noah not made the cryptic comment about the actual suspect. There was no follow up or further explanation as to what happened. Then, the same thing occurred with the secondary suspect. I felt like there was no real closure regarding those 2 people.

I would absolutely recommend this book. I will admit I wish I had read part of it during daylight hours. It was a bit unnerving.

Buried Lies is the second book in the Crimson Point series by Kaylea Cross. The story gives the reader two bad guys: one who's a bully and , Romance, Updates on the characters from the previous book. However, be aware there is a trigger that could be an issue but since I'm not giving it away just a warning.

Poppy has arrived from South Dakota running from a town that was very unforgiving about her mother and their lives (they are just mean bullies who think their lives are better than hers). She hopes opening her book/coffee/bakery store is what she needs for a new start. But when she waking up her sheriff neighbor will be the start of her HEA. But there's a evil dark person who has his sights on her and Noah will need to use the FBI and his whole town to find her when she's gone missing. There will be my favorite part which is the folks of Crimson Point helping out Poppy while she's missing and recovering.

Noah Buchanan as the sheriff knows of the missing girls that the FBI needs help but what he doesn't know is who it is or how close they are. He admires Poppy and her drive to succeed without asking for help and that they could build a relationship in the future. When she helps the town twice with a missing girl and cougar attack on a mother and child-her aim with a rifle is awesome will have Crimson Point realizing she's a part of them now. But the missing girls and then Poppy will have him racing to save her before it's too late.

There's a teaser for the next book Molly and Jase plus the arrival of Aiden MacIntyre (Who doesn't like a Scottish accent and ex-Royal British Marine?)

Loved the dynamic of the main characters. How they interact with each other as well as how their love was. It's like being a teenager in love. It's not immature or anything but sweet and makes your heart flutter. It also makes your heart hurt with what she goes through and how tender and understanding he is.

I've just finished this suspenseful romance by Kaylea Cross and rather enjoyed it.

I picked it up based on the blurb - I love a good small town setting, and who doesn't find a dutiful, hardworking sheriff even more enticing than your regular, run-of-the-mill red-hot neighbour? What kept me reading was the sweet sweet build up between main characters Poppy and Noah, and the threads of sinister suspense woven into the story.

I have to confess, I did guess the ending, but I tend to do that a fair bit. I always like to theorise when I'm halfway through a book so invariably I'm going to guess correctly sometimes, aren't I? It didn't lessen my enjoyment, however, and those final scenes were still tense and exciting.

If I did have to nit-pick at something, It would be that I'd rather the romance had had a bit more time to develop before the finale. It had only just begun, to quote The Carpenters, and so when the "I love yous" came, I wasn't quite there with them.

I particularly enjoyed Poppy's character, she was a sweetheart, if a little timid, but so resilient and hardworking. You've got to admire that in a girl!

I haven't read any of the rest of this series but the subplots that were included in this story were excellent and I'll definitely pick up the next one if I spot it on the shelf.

Buried Lies, book two in Kaylea Cross' Crimson Point series was a great read. That grabbed me from the start, and never let go. Thanks to a well-paced storyline and a sweet romance. Not to mention a little suspense, that ended with a real heart in your mouth rescue. And with little angst and great secondary characters this was a really enjoyable tale that I would happily recommend to others.

[TW: assault, rape mentions]

Having finished this, I now realized just how many of my favourite tropes are in this book: age gap (Noah is 38, Poppy is 26), neighbours/girl-next-door, found family... and Noah's also the sheriff *checks off Men-in-Uniform*

Anyway, the story is fast-paced and the romance is cute, though we pretty much knew from the get-go who the baddie was (it really wasn't hard to guess lol). And I love the Pamela Clare mention! #friendshipgoals

Jase and Molly's book is gonna SLAY me.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH INKSLINGER PR. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

After reading the first book in this series, I went into this story with high hopes and I wasn't disappointed! OMG, this story was amazing!

First and foremost, I loved the suspense angle of this story! It was totally creepy, and shocked the heck out of me! My only complaint was that I wanted to know more of the serial killer's motivations for starting down that path. "The Monster Inside" just wasn't good enough for me, even with guessing about his mother.

Poppy was my kind of heroine! I loved how strong she was, and how kind-hearted she was despite her past. I especially liked how she persevered despite the negativity from the people in her old hometown. I loved how Crimson Point rallied around her!

I really liked Noah as the hero...he wasn't too alpha, nor was he too hyped up on being a police officer. He was relatable and approachable to me, and more importantly, I liked how loyal he was to his former comrades in arms. We got to see more of the conflict between Molly and Carter, and saw that finally come to a boiling point, which makes me eager to read Molly's story!

All in all, a wonderful installment in the series!

Poppy Larsen has moved to Crimson Point to start a new life away from her judgmental hometown. She has opened a bookshop and is slowly remodeling her new home. What she doesn’t expect is to be attracted to her sexy sheriff neighbor Noah Buchanan. While she trusts Noah it's going to take a while before she can trust any man again.

I loved this book. Poppy was so amazing, and strong. I totally have a girl crush on her. She opened her own bookstore/bakery and is remodeling her own home. Her past was filled with bullying and rumors that trashed her reputation. She is very reluctant to trust anyone, especially a man, and she is terrified that her past will follow her to Crimson Point. Poppy is hardworking, strong, and very sweet. She was perfect, especially for Noah. She was resilient against the bullies growing up and she was resilient against the trauma of surviving a serial killer.

As the sheriff of Crimson Point, Noah is very strong, protective, and masculine. What I really loved about him though was that he wasn’t afraid to show a softer side with others, especially Poppy. He was genuine and truly cared about the people in his community.

Noah and Poppy had a slow building relationship with lots of chemistry. I loved their relationship and how they worked through their trust issues. There is also development in the side characters relationships for a future book, which will most likely be very emotional.

The suspense portion of this book was very good. The serial killer was interesting and unassuming. I find his way of killing disturbing and terrifying because I feel that is a lot of people’s fear. I do enjoy how Cross deals with the mental and emotional trauma of the experience. She does a really good job with portraying mental illness and emotional trauma. I really wonder how this series will continue and how the characters will be affected.
