Emily's voice comes through quite strongly, to the strength of the novel. She's a well-drawn protagonist and the side characters are charming as well.
The writing style was a little florid for my taste, but I did get used to it.

The ending was a let down and by the last few chapters I was bored and just wanted the book to be over, I think the journal format didn't help with that.
Graphic: Injury/Injury detail and Kidnapping
Moderate: Torture
Minor: Suicidal thoughts

It's stemmed in a world we're used to, but with the addition of fae and magic, so while there is world building and new myths to be learned, it still feels familiar. I loved the setting, the adventure, the characters, as well as the hint of romance we got to see.
