While this wasn't anything extraordinary for me, it was a solid read, and one of the best paranormal romances I've ever read. There were racy scenes and plenty of romantic interludes, but they fit seamlessly with the overall plot, unlike many romances where the rest of the setting just becomes window dressing. I liked both Claire and Brody a lot, and I was invested in the interesting world of the "echo".

I had a good time listening to this one. Interesting concept and some fun twists and turns. I'd read more from the author, for sure. The narration was great but I'm still trying to figure out why a British narrator was used for a book set in Chicago with no non-American characters. Still, Finty Williams is a fantastic narrator so the story definitely didn't suffer.

Life after life

This was a great read; strange yet the concept of the “echo” and layers of life ( or remaining energy) kept me spellbound. Excited to see that this will be a movie.

This was a very well written book and had an interesting take on the afterlife. I felt like some parts were rushed and wish the book was a little longer, but overall I really enjoyed!

Story based on what happens in the Afterlife. Premise is that a mean evil disturbing psycho killer dies and is sent to the Afterlife where he continues to wreck havoc and evil everywhere. FBI agents who in this life were tracking him down, are killed by him and also end up in the Afterlife and have the decision to make whether they will continue to seek him out and try and stop him from his reign of terror. There is a love story between the two agents.

Not to my liking but others may find they enjoy this story; it is being made into a major motion picture that I have no interest in seeing.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC of this book which I jumped all over being a HUGE fan of Sakey's Brilliance trilogy. This one just didn't do it for me in the same way though. It was a quick read and I thought the premise was interesting. Perhaps it will work better on the screen as the film it's already been sold as? Something about it just felt thin. Maybe it was the relationship between Claire and Will that I felt like was not fully developed or perhaps it was the ever changing rules of the afterlife. That and all of the absolute gore and darkness were a turn off for me. I'll continue to keep up with Sakey though since I've liked most of his works.

I completely loved this book and I was really hesitant about giving it a try. It had everything I love! An interesting plot, great characters, beautifully built 'fantasy' world, good vs evil action and a love story without too much romance. I could fall into a book like this everyday! I strongly recommend giving this book a shot even if it isn't among your traditional reading style. This will now be one of my all time favorites!

Whoa. This novel was crazy unpredictable and original without veering into the completely unbelievable. It's one fo the most moving love stories I've ever read. It's part crime novel, part dystopian, part philosophy. Most of the action takes place after the main character dies. It's an afterlife like nothing you've ever imagined. There are some echoes of things like The Dark Tower series and American Gods, but the story is wholly original. And the writing! Descriptive but concise, full of cliffhangers without feeling manipulative, snappy but realistic dialogue, and near perfect pacing. The only quibble I had was with the first chapter, which is totally confusing until later on. It seemed so out of place that I actually flipped ahead to make sure the copy I had didn't somehow have the wrong copy! It all makes sense later and I'm not sure how else that could have been done, but it made for a confusing start. I'm not surprised this is already being made into a movie by Ron Howard.
