The Beloved Children is the utterly captivating story of three young women who form a variety act towards the end of WWII, and with it a fast friendship.

Orage, Chrysanthemum and Rose are billed as The Three Graces. As they find their dancing feet in the show, soon they are taken under the wing of Dolores, the theatre's slightly scary wardrobe mistress and her Russian fortune telling friend Janna. The story is told from Chrysanthemum's point of view who, though she is neither as glamorous as Orage nor as skilled a dancer as Rose, feels that she has finally found a place where she feels at home with her theatrical friends.

It's a fabulous novel of secrets and friendship, of stories told and untold, mysticism and ghosts and I loved it.
