It was nice to dip my toes back into Julie and the phantoms and I really did enjoy it but it only made me want more

Considering JATP as one of my comfort series I NEEDED to get this book. Never in a hundred years would I’ve expected it to be so disappointing. The writing style was horrible as if the author only had a week to write the thing. There were no transitions everything was abrupt and weirdly cut.
Scenes that I LOVE were simply left out (imagine just cutting edge of great out EXCUSE ME??) and all in all this was really bad.

The only thing good about this book is the story line which was already given.

I never thought I’d EVER give a book 1 star but here we are

If you've been following me for a little longer now, you know that I'm one of the few people in the world preferring a book over Netflix. I don't know what it is, but watching television rarely works as well as just reading a story. A friend of mine was fangirling on Twitter over this series and I was getting curious and then I discovered that there was a novel version! I ordered it right away and I was quite excited to get started.

Let me start this review with saying that in every way possible this story surprised me in the best way possible. Maybe my expectations weren't that high, but this story had a little bit of everything. It was exciting, it was funny and witty, it had some thrilling mysterious elements and it also managed to touch me and really made me tear up. I of course can't say if the book does the series justice, but the book really worked for me at least!

That's partly because Julie is an amazing character. In this book we spend quite some time in her head, since the book seems to focus on her mostly, and I think it's almost impossible not to like her and not to root for her. Julie didn't have an easy year and she has a hard time figuring out how to live again. Her pain and struggles are shown really well in the beginning and therefore everything happening to her after has such a huge emotional impact.

And of course there's the band. I loved how the prologue gave us a great impression of everything that happened and although not everything is answered I liked how as a reader it was easy to connect the prologue with the rest of the story. Since we also spend some time in the heads of the band I also connected with all the band members, although I didn't have the same intense click with them as the one I had with Julie.

The ending also is perfect. It's satisfying enough in case there won't be a next season, but open enough to leave room for there to be one. I hope we get a sequel. I want and need more!

The fact that it took me 12 days to read this, a book that I should have got through in 1-2 days because I put it down for a week says a lot.

I love the show and have watched it repeatedly. Despite this book being aimed at the show’s target audience of pre/early teens, I was quite excited, especially for the extra content. There wasn’t any, not really. A few speeches were different, but there was nothing new.

The cutting of some of the iconic scenes such as the chemistry scene, Perfect Harmony, and Edge of Great (to name but a few) was so disappointing as I was looking forward to getting a bit more insight to these.

The characters in the book felt quite flat and 2 dimensional. Somehow the author managed to make them boring as there’s very little banter between the boys or Julie and Flynn to give them the life they have in the show.

I adored it and breezed through it, but I wish it hadn't left out some of my favourite scenes and songs from the show - I feel like it could have been just a little longer to include those scenes. Other than that, great fun to read the thoughts and feelings the characters had during the events of the show!
