4 stars i think. solid fantasy book. sort of drags in the middle and i found myself conflicted about some characters but it ties itself together nicely and had me interested in the 2nd half

The switching back-and-forth from times was a little hard to follow personally, but it was so interesting to learn the history and information before the main character did so that you could piece the puzzle together yourself.

This story was amazing and I can’t wait to see how the other ones develop.

Claire Legrand is quickly becoming someone whose work I want to devour. I read an ARC of Sawkill Girls and was impressed by the depth of the characterizations, the emotional complexities of those characters, and the thrilling level of storytelling. So when a copy of this book came back into my branch (and wasn't on hold!), I grabbed it to see if I'd love it just as much.

I did.

I think Rielle is admirable and scary in her appetites. Eliana is fierce and so wounded but she always keeps fighting. Rielle makes me cringe a bit but I love Eliana so much. I think I'd pick up a sword and swear fealty to her too. She's seems at the beginning of something regrettable but also deeply admirable. I just can't wait to read more about her.

Anyway, it was a spectacular read and I will be doing my usual rec to any patron that will indulge my ravings.

This is the type of book that catches your attention right away! I loved how there was two different timelines, it made the book fascinating.
The characters were amazing as well!
This story was a masterpiece, I just want to live in it.

I like the world building a lot! The characters and plot otherwise were,,, okay?? Not a huge fan of
large age gap relationships
like what the ending lead into
I mean. El is 18 and Simon is 26. It’s a little weird

An ancient prophecy foretold the coming of two queens with the power to control all seven types of elemental magic - a Blood Queen who could destroy the world and a Sun Queen who could save it. Furyborn alternates between the perspectives of Rielle Dardenne, a noblewoman who reveals her stunning powers while saving her friend the prince from an assassination attempt, and Eliana Ferracora, a fierce and lethal bounty hunter living centuries later. The action-packed narrative draws readers in right from the prologue and leaves them wanting more at the end. I can't wait to reenter the world of the Empirium with the next installment in the series!
