This was a pretty dang good horror novella and has turned me on to Ania Ahlborn as a writer (since reading I Call Upon Thee, I've read two more of her books and am currently reading another). There are some pretty effective scares, and one scene in particular that I thought was so creepy while being beautifully written that I made both my wife and the co-host of my horror podcast listen to me read it aloud to them.
Is it perfect? No, but it's a pretty great read, with gorgeous prose, well-developed characters, and, as I've mentioned, some top-notch scares. Few full-length horror novels can boast that, and this is just a novella.
