This was a book win from Library Thing. I was intrigued by the title but apparently didn't read the description very well. I thought it would be like those books by John Douglas, the FBI profiler who gets inside the minds of serial killers. I thought this would be tales of derring-do by the ATF. Nope. It is law enforcement tales, first half is fiction short stories and second half is essays of the author's life. First half alternately made me sad and angry and like cops even less. Second half was practically lighter in voice and felt better. I like how the author talks about his life in the various essays. When he's young, his various jobs, being a New Yorker, some eye-opening events.
I liked it overall.
