In a way this reminded me of a [a: Jonathan Carroll|23704|Jonathan Carroll|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1222900262p2/23704.jpg] novel. It starts out firmly in the real world and moves ever imperceptibly into the world of fantasy. Spanning the turn of the millennium, from roughly 1998 through 2001, Boggess’ novel deals with the hopes and fears that this time period brought out in people, especially in young adults. All three main characters are well-realized, but Mercy is an especially unique creation. I still think I prefer the more conventional love story of [b: A Song without a Melody|33280761|A Song Without a Melody|Ace Boggess|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1481052227l/33280761._SY75_.jpg|54004281], but this is a more ambitious book and well worth reading.
