While this was on my To Read list (because Kate DiCamillo), it didn't rank particularly high as I wasn't overly keen on Raymie Nightingale. One of my classes chose it as a readaloud, though, and I'm particularly glad they did. It was absolutely excellent. I'd argue that it starts to drag a bit after the major twist, but it begins and ends so well that it hardly matters.

This was not my most favorite Kate DiCamillo book. However, Kate DiCamillo still knows how to open a window into the soul of all her characters.. This is a book full of all the love, purity, honesty, and joy that fills Kate DiCamillo books. My heart grows when I read her books. My heart is bigger after finishing Louisiana's Way Home.

In my opinion, Kate DiCamillo can do no wrong when it comes to writing. Her books all have a wonderful mix of imagination and heart, and Louisiana's story is no exception. I would recommend this to readers from 9 to 109.

Cute and sad story of a little girl who has to endure too much. I never read the Raymie book, so I can’t speak to that connection. Nice middle grades pick.

Louisiana has a spunk and imagination that reminds me of Anne from Anne of Green Gables.
