Thank you #netgalley for giving me a copy of #LightAcandleTumainiPasipoNaTumaini to review. This was a short picture book about a little boy in a country in Africa. He longs to be a man and so he goes on a journey wth the other men to claim independence. It was a sweet story, though, as I said, short. I wish there were more to it, but this would make a great addition to an elementary library.

This is a fictional retelling of an important event in the history of the United Republic of Tanzania.
It is told in both English and Swahili.
Ngama is a young Chagga boy who goes against his father's wishes and follows a group of men who were tasked to light a freedom torch at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro to unite their new country. Eva Campbell's art captures the majesty of the country and the culture of the people in her vibrant painting.
The back matter contains additional information about the country and it's origins.
