I couldn’t put this book down. From the first page, the drama is palpable. Love positions herself as a lovable and deplorable narrator. Her journey as an addict and mother through the penal system is described in terms a bit to neatly at times, but it is a delicious journey of hope, rooted in a mother‘s love. Love’s determination to thrive against all odds keeps you wondering what twists are coming and how she’ll tackle them. Throughout the book, you follow her as she goes up and up and up! My only disappointment was in the fairytale ending. After enduring, such a traumatic experience, there must be some challenges. I wish she had shared how she balances those in her current, fulfilling life.

I love a good redemption story! People are incredible and we can all practice more empathy when making judgements about others. Way to go, Lara Love.

I loved the beginning of this book. It slowed down for me toward the middle and end, but overall enjoyed the story and outcome.

The book is a memoir of the deeply human live of Lara Love Hardin. We follow the incredible journey of a woman who went from prison to ghostwriter to writer. The writing is amazing and we get to read it easily. It gives the details of her past, without shying away from them, offers prison perspectiv  and yhe struggle of reinsertion due to the probation program. It is a redemption story with a social commentary.

I don’t read memoirs… but I really enjoyed this. It was written like a fiction novel rather than a textbook.
Her life story is both crazy and fascinating. But It felt a bit too surface … and she was writing about herself through the zen and well adjusted attitude she has now (vs what probably was a very selfish or chaotic period she went through back then).
