Not sure that the author has any idea about the education of the foreign students

Powerful.
Once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I stayed up to finish it.
A book everyone should read! The sooner the better!

I wound up getting this because I thought it was going to be a queer book, but despite having a queer secondary character that was NOT what it was about.

This is a dual POV and follows an international student from a very wealthy Chinese family as she is sent overseas to an Ameriean school in California and the 2nd gen Filipino girl she is staying with who is struggling to help her mother make ends meet.

It's a class statement as well as a pointed acknowledgement of how racism exists even within the same racial demographic between the foreign students and ABC students, but it also is about sexual assault and overcoming personal disagreements to support someone through the
same issue you are having.

I thought it was well written and I got through it in just over a day since some of the sexual assault scenes made my skin crawl and I had to take breaks.
it also includes a bit about a foreign student figuring out how to come
out to her conservative old money parents as well as a lot of the parents using money in place of real affection.

A strong, complex exploration of the experience of rich Chinese teens shipped to the United States and that of poor Chinese students on scholarship to the U.S., and touching on the world of American Born Chinese and of other immigrant families, and how these experiences overlap, intersect, differ, and are all impacted by racism and power structures and dynamics that often work against them. Friendship is also explored, as well as romantic relationships both straight and lesbian. Thoughtfully crafted, it’s a thought-provoking read, in addition to being an excellent story. Recommended!
