I really enjoyed this. It was educational and self-reflecting. I love how Emily broke down the cult-like control of MLMs  and their roots in white supremacy and the patriarchy. I will say, if you’re already anti-MLM you won’t really learn anything new here but I still found it worth the read. I definitely recommend the audiobook, the narration was well done and kept me engaged.

This brought so many emotions to the surface about my time in a MLM. Just....wow. It's worth a read.

Honestly not my vibe at all. For an author who was attempting to make people aware of how awful MLMs are she had a lot of girlboss vibes.

If you're not already deep into anti-MLM content like I am (or you have a long drive coming up and have run out of Normal Gossip podcast episodes) this is a worthwhile read/listen. It took me a couple hours to get into it but then I had to know what happened with the author's alcohol and cancer journey so I kept listening.

it was a perfectly okay book. about ~two-third of the way through it, it started getting a bit repetitive. it could’ve been a long article instead. gave it less ratings bc of some creative choices she made.

1. “hun” in the title. i thought this was written by a black woman bc i’ve only heard poc / southern ppl use “hun”..? prob on purpose bc she addresses anti-black racism in mlms, so this isn’t a strong critique
2.
in the last chapter she doesn’t definitively say that mlms should be banned. even after continuously stealing from ppl and saying she’s sorry. i don’t like the whole “agree to disagree” thing when she knows firsthand how terribly this affects ppl’s lives

3. a lot of the talk of “white women perpetuating white supremacy” treats white women like they can’t think abt what they’re doing and as if they’re powerless to their racism. i feel like that’s not accurate at all. like, if they have enough cognition to be racist, they have enough cognition Not to be racist. white women are ppl too <3

not gonna read again, but i don’t regret reading it!

My current rabbit-hole is the cult of MLM's. I do have a few reservations about this one. For instance, her new sober business makes me nervous because it has a slight MLM vibe for me. That being said, I think her heart is in the right place and what she shared was 100% relatable. It is easy to be sucked in, but beware... they pray on the weak. You may be on someone's "dirt list".

I'm not sure I know anyone at this point who has not been invited to a "party", let alone how many of us have been an active part of one. Yes, even me. I sold ********* when our son was first diagnosed with allergies because we didn't know how deep his issues went. I didn't know where to turn for safe cleaning & hygiene products. I was a new mom and an easy target. We all have a story.
